Editorial Dossier — Issue No. 1

"The difference between a course that transforms and one that merely informs is architectural. We build the architecture."

CourseHeroPath is a specialist course design consultancy based in Liastead, Ireland. We partner with educators, subject-matter experts, and organisations to engineer learning programmes that produce measurable, lasting competence — not passive consumption.

This dossier walks you through our readiness framework, curriculum philosophy, delivery routes, and methodology. Read it as you would a briefing document: critically, with your own learners in mind.

Is Your Course Ready to Exist? — The Readiness Diagnostic

Before we design a single module, we run every prospective programme through a six-dimension readiness check. This is not a sales exercise — it is an honest assessment that has, on occasion, led us to advise clients not to build a course at all.

DimensionWhat We EvaluatePass Criteria
Audience ClarityCan the client describe three distinct learner archetypes with specific prior knowledge, motivations, and constraints? Defined archetypes with evidence
Outcome SpecificityAre learning outcomes expressed as observable behaviours, not vague aspirations? Verb-led, measurable statements
Content DepthDoes the subject-matter expert possess more material than the course will use? Surplus knowledge available
Market DifferentiationCan we identify at least two structural differences from competing courses? Unique structure or delivery
Delivery FeasibilityDoes the client have the infrastructure, time, and budget to sustain the programme? Realistic resource plan
Ethical StandingDoes the course make promises it can substantiate? Is the pricing fair for the value? No inflated claims

Of the 73 readiness diagnostics we ran last year, 11 resulted in a recommendation to postpone. Integrity is not optional in education.

The Curriculum Spine — How a CourseHeroPath Programme Takes Shape

Every programme follows a spine — a sequential, non-negotiable progression from raw intent to polished, learner-tested delivery. Here is how it unfolds, with proof embedded at each stage.

Stage 1 — Intent Mapping

We sit with the course creator for a structured two-hour intent mapping session. No slides. No templates. Just questions designed to surface the real reason this course should exist.

"The intent mapping session changed everything. I came in wanting to teach marketing — I left knowing I needed to teach decision-making under uncertainty." — Ronan K., Business Educator, Cork

Stage 2 — Architecture Draft

We produce a skeletal architecture: module sequence, dependency map, assessment anchors, and estimated cognitive load per unit. This is a working document, not a polished deliverable.

Average architecture drafts contain 14–22 module nodes. We deliberately over-structure at this stage so pruning decisions are informed, not arbitrary.

Stage 3 — Content Sprint

The subject-matter expert produces raw content against the architecture. We provide a content brief for each module — specifying depth, tone, example density, and assessment hooks.

Stage 4 — Pedagogical Review

Our curriculum team reviews every module for cognitive sequencing, prerequisite alignment, and engagement pacing. We flag "dead zones" — sections where learner attention will predictably drop — and redesign them.

"They found three dead zones in my course that I'd been blind to for months. Completion rates jumped after the redesign." — Aisling T., Health Sciences Instructor

Stage 5 — Pilot & Iteration

We run a controlled pilot with 8–15 real learners. We measure completion, comprehension, and satisfaction — then iterate the weakest modules before full launch.

Three Convictions That Shape Every Programme We Build

1. Structure Precedes Content

Most course creators begin with content and hope structure emerges. We reverse this. A well-designed architecture can accommodate mediocre content and still produce learning. Brilliant content inside a poor structure produces confusion.

This is why our first deliverable is always a structural blueprint, never a lesson script.

2. Assessment Is the Curriculum

We design assessments before we design lessons. If you cannot articulate what a learner should be able to do after a module, the module has no reason to exist. Every assessment in a CourseHeroPath programme is a miniature proof-of-competence — not a quiz.

Programme Outcome — Data Literacy for Managers "After completing the programme, 89% of participants could independently interpret a multivariate dataset and present actionable recommendations to their team — up from 12% at baseline."

3. Completion Is Designed, Not Hoped For

Industry average course completion hovers around 15%. Our programmes average 68% completion across all cohorts since 2023. The difference is not motivation tricks — it is structural pacing, cognitive load management, and strategically placed micro-wins.

We do not gamify. We architect momentum.

Route Comparison — Which Engagement Model Fits?

We offer three engagement routes. Each serves a different stage of course maturity. This is not a pricing table — it is a decision framework.

DimensionBlueprint RouteFull Architecture RouteOngoing Stewardship
Best ForFirst-time course creatorsEstablished programmes needing refinement

The Full Architecture Route includes intent mapping, architecture draft, content sprint support, full pedagogical review, and a managed pilot. It is our most requested engagement — 6 out of every 10 clients choose it.

Methodology Notes — Questions We Get Asked

These are not frequently asked questions in the marketing sense. They are genuine methodological concerns raised by educators and organisations during our intake conversations.

How do you measure cognitive load without direct learner observation?
We use a proxy model combining three indicators: estimated time-on-task per module, conceptual density score (novel concepts per 500 words), and prerequisite dependency depth. This model was calibrated against observed learner behaviour in 19 pilot cohorts between 2023 and 2025. It is imperfect — all models are — but it catches the most damaging overload patterns before they reach learners.
Do you work with self-paced courses or only cohort-based programmes?
Both, but differently. Self-paced courses require more aggressive structural pacing because there is no social accountability. We build in what we call "commitment checkpoints" — short, low-stakes tasks that re-engage the learner's intention at critical drop-off points. Cohort-based programmes benefit from peer dynamics, so our architecture leans more on collaborative assessment and discussion scaffolds.
What platforms do you support?
We are platform-agnostic. Our deliverables are structural and pedagogical — they translate to Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi, Moodle, Canvas, WordPress with LearnDash, or custom-built LMS environments. We do not build the technology layer; we design the learning layer that sits on top of it.
What happens if the readiness diagnostic reveals the course should not be built?
We issue a candid written assessment explaining which dimensions failed and why. We include specific recommendations for what would need to change before the course becomes viable. There is no charge for a diagnostic that results in a postponement recommendation. We would rather lose a project than help build something that wastes learners' time.

Education Is Infrastructure

Every course you build becomes part of someone's knowledge infrastructure. We take that responsibility seriously — and we think you should too.

If you are building a course because you have something genuinely valuable to teach, we want to help you teach it well.
